Additional Notes

BCLS+AED Course FAQs:

Who is required to take the BCLS+AED course?

BCLS+AED is the mandatory standard for healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and allied health staff, as well as organizations regulated by the Ministry of Health (MOH). This SRFAC-accredited certification is a core practice requirement, ensuring that providers meet the highest clinical benchmarks for standardised cardiac emergency response.

How long is the SRFAC Recognised BCLS+AED certification valid?

The BCLS+AED certification is valid for 2 years. To maintain your qualification for compliance, you must attend a refresher course within 3 months of current certificate expiry.

What is the “Blended Learning” advantage when taking up the BCLS+AED Course at SFATC?

It allows you to complete the 3.5-hour theory portion online at your convenience, reducing your required classroom time to just half a day (3.5 hours) for hands-on skills.

What is the difference between the BCLS+AED Course and the CPR+AED Course?

While both courses teach essential resuscitation skills, the BCLS+AED Course is a significantly more comprehensive program specifically designed to meet the rigorous clinical benchmarks for healthcare professionals and Ministry of Health (MOH) regulated organisations . Unlike the adult-centric CPR+AED Course designed for lay rescuers, the BCLS+AED curriculum includes specialized life-saving modules for infant and child CPR, as well as techniques to relieve Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) such as the Heimlich Maneuver and back blows for adults, children, and infants. Hands-only CPR is taught in the CPR+AED Course, whereas BCLS+AED covers standard CPR with ventilations. This higher-intensity training is required for clinical practice and JCI-accredited organisations to ensure that practitioners are competent in managing cardiac and respiratory emergencies across all age groups.

What specific life-saving skills are covered in the BCLS+AED Course?

You will learn to implement the Chain Of Survival, approach an emergency scene safely, perform high-quality CPR and AED operations for adults and infants, and manage choking in adults and infants.

Is the BCLS+AED Course recognized by Ministry of Health (MOH) institutions?

Yes. The BCLS+AED Course is fully recognized and accepted by Ministry of Health (MOH) institutions as the benchmark for basic life support training. As a course accredited by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC), it meets the mandatory clinical practice requirements for healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, and is a prerequisite for those working in hospitals or organizations under JCI accreditation. The curriculum is specifically designed to align with the rigorous safety and resuscitation standards required within the Singapore healthcare ecosystem.

Are there any prerequisites for enrolling in the BCLS+AED course?

Participants should be proficient in English, able to perform moderate physical activities like CPR, and willing to practice techniques on fellow learners.

Can I use my SkillsFuture Credits (SFC) or SSG funding?

Yes. The BCLS+AED course is eligible for SSG funding and SkillsFuture Credits. When registering via our Baoza platform, your subsidy is automatically calculated so you only pay the nett fee.

What is the difference between the "Blended" and "Full" classroom courses offered by other training organisations?

Our Blended Learning format is designed for maximum flexibility. You complete 3.5 hours of theory online at your own pace before attending just half a day of high-intensity practical training in class.

If I wish to become a BCLS+AED instructor, does the BCLS+AED Course meet the prerequisites?

The BCLS+AED Course meets the qualifying prerequisites for the entry into the SRFAC accredited BCLS+AED instructor course in Singapore. It is also one of the prerequisites for Standard First Aid Instructors who intend to teach the Child First Aid Course. Therefore, it is considered one of the core provider programs that all instructors should begin with at the start of their instructor journey.

What happens if I miss a session or fail the assessment?

To remain eligible for SSG funding, you must use the Singpass app for attendance and pass all assessments. If these requirements are not met, the trainee or sponsoring company may be liable for the full, non-funded course fee.

How many attempts do I have for the BCLS+AED assessments?

Most BCLS+AED learners succeed on their first try; however, we provide up to 3 attempts to complete all theory and practical assessments successfully.

Is the BCLS+AED Course easy? Will it be difficult to pass the BCLS+AED Course?

While the BCLS+AED Course is physically intensive and adheres to stringent SRFAC skill performance standards, the curriculum is designed to be highly accessible and easy to follow. By utilising a blended learning approach, combining engaging online theory with interactive, hands-on practical sessions, we ensure maximum knowledge retention and skill precision. Our experienced trainers provide personalised coaching during the practical drills, leading to a consistently high success rate among learners. Most importantly, participants leave the course feeling confident and fully prepared to execute life-saving interventions in high-pressure cardiac emergencies.
