Additional Notes

BCLS+AED Refresher Course FAQs:

Who is required to take the BCLS+AED Refresher course?

The BCLS+AED Refresher is the mandatory standard for healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, and allied health staff, as well as organisations regulated by the Ministry of Health (MOH). This SRFAC-accredited certification is a core practice requirement, ensuring that clinical providers meet the highest benchmarks for standardised cardiac emergency response within the Singapore healthcare ecosystem.

How long is the SRFAC-recognised BCLS+AED Refresher certification valid?

The BCLS+AED Refresher certification conferred by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) is valid for 2 years. To maintain your professional qualification for compliance and clinical practice, you must attend a refresher course within 3 months of current certificate expiry.

What is the difference between the BCLS+AED Refresher Course and the public CPR+AED Course?

Whilst both teach essential resuscitation, the BCLS+AED Refresher is a more rigorous programme designed for healthcare environments. Unlike the adult centric CPR+AED course for lay rescuers, the BCLS+AED curriculum includes specialised modules for Infant CPR and Infant Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO). Additionally, whilst public courses often focus on "Hands-only" CPR, this refresher covers standard CPR with ventilations using a bag valve mask (BVM), which is required for clinical practice and JCI accredited organisations.

What specific life-saving skills are covered in the BCLS+AED Refresher Course?

This intensive session focuses on refreshing your ability to implement the Chain of Survival, perform high-quality CPR (Adult and Infant) with correct compression to ventilation ratios, execute precise AED operations, and manage choking (FBAO) in adults, children, and infants.

Is the BCLS+AED Refresher Course recognized by Ministry of Health (MOH) institutions?

Yes. The BCLS+AED Refresher is fully recognised by Ministry of Health (MOH) institutions as the gold standard for basic life support training. Accredited by the SRFAC, it meets the mandatory clinical practice requirements for doctors and nurses in Singapore and is a prerequisite for personnel working in hospitals under JCI accreditation.

Are there any prerequisites for enrolling in the BCLS+AED Refresher course?

You must possess a valid or recently expired BCLS+AED (SRFAC) certificate. You should have basic English proficiency and be comfortable with moderate physical activity and be willing to practice techniques on fellow learners.

Can I use my SkillsFuture Credits (SFC) or SSG funding?

Yes. The BCLS+AED Refresher course is eligible for SSG funding and SkillsFuture Credits. When registering via our Baoza platform, your subsidy is automatically calculated based on your eligibility, allowing you to pay only the nett fee upfront.

How does the Refresher format differ from the Blended BCLS+AED course?

The BCLS+AED Refresher is a face to face classroom session. Because it is designed for existing providers, it bypasses the foundational online theory and focuses directly on intensive, high speed practical drills and assessments to verify your clinical competency.

If I wish to become a BCLS+AED instructor, does the BCLS+AED Refresher Course meet the prerequisites?

Yes. Successfully completing this SRFAC accredited BCLS+AED programme meets the entry prerequisites for the SRFAC accredited BCLS+AED instructor course in Singapore. It is also a core requirement for Standard First Aid Instructors who intend to teach the Child First Aid (CFA) course for the early childhood sector.

What happens if I miss a session or fail the assessment?

To remain eligible for SSG funding, you must use the Singpass app for clocking attendance and pass all assessment components. If these requirements are not met, the trainee or sponsoring company may be liable for the full, non funded course fee.

How many attempts do I have for the BCLS+AED Refresher assessments?

Most learners succeed on their first try due to our interactive coaching; however, should you require it, we provide up to 3 attempts to successfully complete the theory MCQ and practical stations, which include Adult/Infant CPR, AED, and FBAO.

Is the BCLS+AED Refresher Course easy? Will it be difficult to pass the BCLS+AED Refresher Course?

Whilst the course adheres to stringent SRFAC skill performance standards, it is designed to be highly accessible for returning learners. Our experienced trainers provide personalised coaching during the drills to ensure maximum skill precision and retention, leading to a consistently high success rate.

Can I attend the Refresher course if my current certificate has already expired?

Yes, you may still attend the refresher if your certificate has recently expired (within the 3 months window), provided you still possess the core knowledge and skills required for the practical assessments. However, if your certification has expired for an extended period, or if you find that you have lost touch, it is highly recommended to take the full Blended Course to ensure you remain updated on major changes to the theory component or to resuscitation protocols.

Does this refresher course cover the use of the bag valve mask (BVM) for ventilations?

Yes, unlike standard public CPR courses that focus on mouth to mouth or hands only techniques, the BCLS+AED Refresher specifically trains healthcare providers in the use of the bag valve mask (BVM). This is a critical skill for clinical settings where professional equipment is available to provide effective ventilations during a resuscitation attempt.
