The Medical First Aid on Board Ship Course is designed to provide seafarers with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to deliver immediate medical assistance to injured or ill persons while at sea. Conducted in accordance with STCW Regulation VI/4, Section A-VI/4-1, this course prepares participants to manage common medical emergencies until professional medical care becomes available.
Through a combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on simulations, participants will learn to assess casualties, manage wounds, control bleeding, perform basic life support (including CPR), treat burns, and respond to fractures, shock, and poisoning. The course also covers hygiene practices, patient transport, and the correct use of onboard medical supplies and equipment.
Upon successful completion, participants receive an internationally recognised certificate, enabling them to act as designated first aid providers on board ships. The course ensures compliance with flag-state and international maritime requirements, and promotes safety and preparedness in remote marine environments where immediate medical evacuation is not possible.
