Additional Notes

Standard First Aid Course FAQs:

Who is required to take the Standard First Aid (SFA) course?

SFA is required for sports coaches (NROC/NREP), fitness professionals (SportSG), school teachers, and members of workplace emergency response teams.

How long is the SRFAC Recognised Standard First Aid certification valid?

The Standard First Aid certification is valid for 2 years. To maintain your qualification for compliance, you must attend a refresher course within 3 months of current certificate expiry.

What is the difference between the Full Classroom Standard First Aid Course and Standard First Aid Blended Course?

Both versions of the Standard First Aid Course carry the same topics and recognition. They are both accredited by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) and recognised by NROC, NREP and SportSG. The full classroom course features 12 hours of in-person training, while the blended version allows you to complete theory online, reducing classroom time while covering the same accredited curriculum. The full classroom course is a better option for those who prefer to learn through lectures and direct interaction, rather than through self-directed learning. It boils down to the preference of each individual.

What is the difference between the Standard First Aid Course and the Child First Aid Course?

The Standard First Aid (SFA) Course provides a solid foundation for managing adult emergencies in the community and workplace. However, the Child First Aid (CFA) Course is a more comprehensive "3-in-1" course that includes everything in SFA plus specialized modules for infant and child casualties. While Child First Aid is mandatory for ECDA-regulated childcare professionals, the Standard First Aid Course is laser-focused on adult-centric emergencies. This streamlined approach ensures learners who primarily handle adults, such as sports coaches and office first aiders, complete their training efficiently, without needing to undergo extra child modules.

What specific life-saving skills are covered in the Standard First Aid Course?

You will learn to perform high-quality hands-only CPR and AED operations for adults, as well as how to manage choking, asthma attacks, seizures, heat-related disorders and injuries like sprains, bleeding, fractures and burns.

Is this course recognized for NROC and NREP coaches?

Yes. The Standard First Aid Course meets the mandatory requirements for National Registry of Coaches (NROC) and National Registry of Exercise Professionals (NREP) recognition for coaches and exercise professionals.

Are there any prerequisites for enrolling in the SFA course?

Participants should be proficient in English, able to perform moderate physical activities like CPR, and willing to practice techniques on fellow learners.

Can I use my SkillsFuture Credits (SFC) or SSG funding?

Yes. The SFA course is eligible for SSG funding and SkillsFuture Credits. When registering via our Baoza platform, your subsidy is automatically calculated so you only pay the nett fee.

I don’t have past exposure to first aid. Will I struggle with the Standard First Aid Course?

The Standard First Aid Course is designed to take you from a complete beginner to a capable and confident responder. The curriculum follows a structured progression: we start with the Essentials of First Aid to build your foundation, then gradually pick up the pace as we move into more complex medical and injury emergencies. You will be coached throughout the entire 2-day session by experienced trainers through instructor-led lectures, demonstrations, and intensive hands-on practice. Skills are observed individually while our trainers practice active coaching to ensure you meet the requirements for each skill, from professional bandaging to CPR+AED usage, before moving on to assessments. Through this mix of theory and practical drills, you will gain the competence and confidence needed to successfully pass the course and respond effectively in a real-life crisis.

If I wish to become a first aid instructor, does the Standard First Aid Course meet the prerequisites?

The Standard First Aid Course meets the qualifying prerequisites for the entry into the first aid instructor course in Singapore (Standard First Aid Instructor Course). This is sufficient for the first aid provider prerequisites for the Standard First Aid Instructor Course. However, if you eventually intend to teach the Child First Aid Course, you must have a valid Child First Aid Certification. Therefore, it is recommended that all potential instructor candidates take up the Child First Aid Course at the beginning of their instructor journey.

What happens if I miss a session or fail the assessment?

To remain eligible for SSG funding, you must use the Singpass app for attendance and pass all assessments. If these requirements are not met, the trainee or sponsoring company may be liable for the full, non-funded course fee.

How many attempts do I have for the Standard First Aid assessments?

Most Standard First Aid learners succeed on their first try; however, we provide up to 3 attempts to complete all theory and practical assessments successfully.

Is the Standard First Aid Course easy? Will it be difficult to pass the SFA Course?

Although the Standard First Aid Course covers a wide spectrum of first aid topics and skills practice, it is easy to follow and delivered in a highly interactive manner to encourage retention. Not only is the success rate of learners very high, they feel confident and more prepared to perform during emergency situations.
