Additional Notes

FAQs:

Who is required to take the Occupational First Aid (OFA) course?

Under the Workplace Safety and Health (First Aid) Regulations, companies—particularly those in high-risk industries like construction and manufacturing—must have appointed, trained first aiders on-site. This course is designed specifically for these designated individuals.

How long is the MOM Recognised Occupational First Aid certification valid?

The Occupational First Aid certification is valid for 2 years. To maintain compliance, first aiders must attend a refresher course before their current certificate expires.

Are there any prerequisites for enrolling in the OFA course?

Participants should have a basic proficiency in English and be physically comfortable performing moderate activities, such as hands-on CPR practice and buddy or group practices sessions.

Is the course fee eligible for SkillsFuture Credits (SFC) or SSG funding?

Yes. The OFA course is eligible for SSG funding and SkillsFuture Credits (SFC). When registering via our Baoza platform, your subsidy is automatically calculated so you only pay the nett fee.

What happens if I miss a session or fail the assessment?

To remain eligible for SSG funding, trainees must use the Singpass app for attendance and pass all written and practical assessments. If these requirements are not met, the trainee or sponsoring company may be liable for the full, non-funded course fee.

Is the Occupational First Aid course mandatory for my company?

Yes, under the WSH (First Aid) Regulations, every workplace must have a sufficient number of occupational trained first aiders trained under an Learning Service Provider (LSP), based on the number of employees and risk level. SFATC has been an ATP / LSP for Occupational First Aid Course and Refresher Course for over 20 years.

What is the difference between the Standard First Aid Course and the Occupational First Aid Course?

Standard First Aid (SFA) is general, while Occupational First Aid (OFA) is specifically geared toward workplace hazards, legal compliance under MOM, and industrial injuries like industrial toxicology and occupational eye injuries.

Which course is more recognised: Standard First Aid Course or the Occupational First Aid Course?

While both courses cater for different requirements, Standard First Aid (SFA) Certification is generally accepted across more sectors including for sports and fitness, education, general public, governmental organisations and uniform groups, while Occupational First Aid (OFA) is specific for meeting legal compliance for workplaces set by the Ministry of Manpower.

If I wish to become a first aid instructor, should I take the Standard First Aid Course or the Occupational First Aid Course to meet the prerequisites?

According to the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council, to be eligible for the first aid instructor course in Singapore (Standard First Aid Instructor Course), you must have a valid Standard First Aid Course certificate. Since Occupational First Aid falls outside of SRFAC administration (OFA falls under WSHC and MOM control), the Occupational First Aid Certification cannot be used to qualify as an entry prerequisite for the Standard First Aid Instructor Course and a Standard First Aid Certification is still required.

Are there exams for the Occupational First Aid Course?

Yes, you must pass a MCQ theory assessment, practical assessments covering CPR, AED usage, and bandaging/immobilization techniques, and a scenario-based oral assessment to be certified.

Is the Occupational First Aid Course easy? Will it be difficult to pass the OFA Course?

Although the Occupational First Aid Course covers a wide spectrum of occupational first aid topics and skills practice, it is easy to follow and delivered in a highly interactive manner to encourage retention. Not only is the success rate of learners very high, they feel confident and more prepared to perform during emergency situations at work.
